It’s everywhere. Doom and gloom is the new vogue. Well, you know what, people? I’m SICK of it.
Expecting bad results, poor performance and negative outcomes usually lead to…..bad results, poor performance and negative outcomes. Banding together to promote a positive flow of information could be just the ticket to counter all the yuckiness we’re bombarded with at every turn. At POSITUS, we’ve created a top five list of positive things to say instead of “in this economy…..”
- We just got a new project/client/job! Yes, exclamation point! Whatever its size and scope, new business is something to celebrate right now. When others see that enough businesses are willing to commit resources to new things, they may just follow suit.
- I’m planning a vacation (even if it’s in my own town.) As small business owners, we all need to take time for ourselves and our families, whatever the environment dictates. Find new, creative ways to reconnect with people you care about and discover things about your immediate surroundings. Who knows? Close geographical exploration may also lead to contacts the yield work.
- Things are going surprisingly well in my business. If you have business right now, be thankful for it and focus on the energy that it brings you. While it may not be as much as last year at this time, it is something upon which to build.
- Have I got a lead for you. Small business people must depend upon one another, in good times and in bad, to share the referral love. In my experience, genuinely helping others does lead to a few of them helping me in return. Furthermore, my endorsement may make an otherwise uncertain transaction palatable.
- I’m learning SO much about X. Down times are perfect opportunities to learn some new things. In my spare time, I’m mastering social media, earning an additional certification and making flip videos to entertain, educate and (maybe) persecute others. I recorded another piece of ridiculousness today, and I’m still laughing.

I’m a big believer that fear breeds more fear. I’ve found that taking a moment to step out of one’s current situation and offer help to someone else, however seemingly small, has a huge impact. I’ve been amazed by the creativity that these hard times have brought out in people.
